Day of Excellence, Inc. (DOE) in its third year of infancy will present “Excellence in Education,” for the first time ever, with featured speaker VJ Smith on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. This event is free for high school students and educators and is made possible by Day of Excellence, Inc. and its supporters.

DOE was developed with two principle objectives. First, and foremost, provide a professional and personal development training opportunity in the Black Hills Area; and second, to give back to our local communities. DOE is grasping further, expanding on the first objective, to reach high school age students through offering a motivational speaker who will encourage them to strive for excellence every day.

VJ Smith, a Brookings, SD native, joined DOE for the first event in 2010 and will be back in Rapid City to present at Excellence in Education. Smith authored the book “The Richest Man in Town,” sharing a story about a checker at Wal-Mart that will make you laugh and cry. He has spoken to hundreds of groups including elementary students, high school students, college students, and professionals.

Do you have high school age children? Or know high school age children? Don’t let them miss the opportunity to laugh, cry and grow as individuals as VJ shares his story. Day of Excellence, Inc. Announces Call for Charitable Applications

RAPID CITY, S.D ― Day of Excellence, Inc. (DOE) announced their invitation to area non-profit organizations to apply for the 2012 charitable giving program. The application can be found at www.DayOfExcellence.com under the “Giving Back” tab.

Any qualified nonprofit organization in the Black Hills area is encouraged to apply prior to the April 30, 2012 deadline. To be considered for funding, an applicant must be designated as a nonprofit, tax exempt “charitable organization” (without private foundation status) conducting programs within our geographic funding area. The number of gifts and the dollar amount DOE will award will be determined by the success of the 2012 event held on Wednesday, May 16 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Gifts will be granted by July 2012.

Third Annual Day of Excellence – Tickets on Sale

Day of Excellence, Inc. (DOE) is thrilled to announce its Third Annual ‘Day’ coming to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Theatre, Wednesday, May 16 from 8:30am to 4:30pm. The ‘Day’ is an annual high energy event offering the community an opportunity to hear from local and nationally renowned speakers, with expertise in a number of personal and professional related topics. This year’s speakers include Tim Gard, Elaine Doll-Dunn, Steve Gilliland, and Tim Sanders.

Tickets, priced at $75, plus applicable fees, will go on sale on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at www.DayofExcellence.com, 1-800-GOT-MINE and the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center box office. This year, tickets for the event will include a limited number of reserved seats, and we are expecting a sell-out crowd. For the best seat selection, don’t delay in purchasing your tickets!

A portion of net proceeds from the event will be donated to local non-profit organizations.

Day of Excellence Announces 2012 Speaker Line-up

Day of Excellence, Inc. (DOE) is pleased to announce the speaker line-up for its third annual event. The 2012 ‘Day’ will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Theatre.

The 2012 speaker line-up includes Tim Gard, a Denver, CO resident better known as the man with Comic Vision. Tim dedicates himself to using humor as a way to look at life a little differently and will begin the day with his talk, “Develop a Comic Vision.” Gard will be followed by Elaine Doll-Dunn, a local educator, marathon runner organizer, and motivational speaker presenting her message “Life is a Marathon… so Double Tie Your Shoes.” The afternoon session will bring Steve Gilliland with “Enjoy the Ride,” outlining a roadmap for success. The closing speaker, Tim Sanders, former Chief Solutions Officer at Yahoo!, will emphasize that one person, regardless of role or rank can change the world in his keynote, “The Power of One Person.”

“We are thrilled to be in the final preparation stages for the third annual Day of Excellence and to offer four energetic and informative speakers to Day of Excellence attendees again this year! We are confident this line up will leave attendees refreshed, enthused and anxious to strive for a greater level of success in both their personal and professional lives,” said Michael Oster, President of DOE, Inc.

Junior LRC Program Donation

Day of Excellence, Inc., created by the Leadership Rapid City (LRC) Class of 2009, recently made a donation to the Junior LRC program. The funds supported the Etiquette Dinner session held in January for the Junior LRC Class of 2012. Pictured are Dean Aurand (left), Junior LRC chair, accepting the donation from Ericka Heiser (right), Vice-President of Day of Excellence, Inc. “The mission of the Junior LRC program is very similar to Day of Excellence, to foster leadership and excellence. We are thrilled to be able to support the Junior LRC program, our future leaders,” said Heiser.

The Day of Excellence Foundation has donated more than $90,000 to local organizations since its inception in 2009, according to officials. Organizers are very excited to be able to ‘give back’ to the community through these contributions. The generosity and commitment from individuals attending the 2nd Annual Day of Excellence, along with the compassionate support of local businesses have made the Day of Excellence charitable giving program possible.
